Writing from Reading…
Jul 27th, 2005 by Jon
I’m so witty! I’m in Reading, as in the place where festivals (that rock) are held on a yearly basis. I’m here on training, but it’s time for another coffee break which allows me to give you an update on recent events. I don’t do coffee really. Neither do I really do tea, although I did have a nice cup of tea in Norwich, made by the one and only John ‘The Crate’ Law.
I’ve just made that name up for him because of a little accident he had with a crate of beer, some gravel, and a shiny car bonet! That’s all I can really say about it. That and the fact that all things combined resulted in a lot of scratches and tears and shouting and polishing and bad luck!
As I had a cup of tea in Norwich, it would be safe to assume that I spent my weekend there yet again. This time I was down that neck of the woods to see Jools Holland and his band play at Blicking Hall. It was a really great gig…better than I had anticipated. It was pretty much a last minute thing. David and Vicky were going, as were a couple of people from work. I was due to be playing football in the tournament (the one I’ve been training for weeks for!), but due to my injured toe I was unable to attend.
Standing in a field was much less painful. Jools did good! Very tallented man. The food was good too…thanks Postles! The Postles are small Norfolk creatures, by the way. They live underground and ride full-sized bicycles to get from a-to-b! They’re good at cooking and making people eat it!
Sunday involved a workmate 540, some chissels, a saw, and some pieces of wood. It’s what Sundays were made for…or at least one of the reasons.
Back to Reading. I”m here on a LANDesk administration course. It’s very interesting, very professional, and quite cool. I’m enjoying it. It’s not too geeky. It’s just clever and powerful and useful.
I’m staying at The Comfort Inn in Padworth. It’s basic, but dry, doesn’t have BBC1 in room 18, smells of smoke despite the no smoking signs and ash-trays in every room, has unhelpful staff, and takes an age to get hot water out of the taps.
I’m driving a BMW 3 Series, which is nice…and black…and goes 70 mph.
Coffee break over!
