It burns….it burns…

My gosh, it’s been a hot one! About time really, as we are well into June. I’m not sure if I like the heat or not. I mean I do, but I don’t! I sometimes tell myself that I prefer the cold, but I don’t. I think I like it warm. Not too hot, not too cold. Like a good shower, although sometimes a hot shower is good and sometimes a cold shower is good!
I think I should probably just make the most of whatever the weather has to offer. It’s hot, so I’ve spent a fair amount of time outside, doing summery things like bbqs and sitting on the grass reading books. I’m quite enjoying this reading phenomenon that has gripped me in the past week or so. I’m not a huge fan of reading really. I never really find I have the time to read. There’s always something on tv or something to eat or sleep to be had. A couple of years ago, however, Jo and I went to Turkey for a bargainous weeks holiday. It was really fun. I was scared of the heat, but it wasn’t so bad. The company was the best, and the place we stayed at was quiet and friendly, with a nice pool, and half-comfortable sun-loungers. And that, my friends, is where I started reading a book! That’s probably not strictly true. I suspect I started reading a book on the plane on the way there, but there we go! I believe I read The Autograph Man by someone or other. Great book. Not sure why I chose it, although I seem to remember buying it from a WHSmiths in Lakeside where Richard & Judy were doing book signings. I saw some of the cast of Holyoaks there once too. Quite a popular place for the rich and famous it would appear.
I may also have read a book by Ben Elton on that holiday….or was that the other holiday? I forget. Anyway, reading isn’t such a bad sport afterall. My latest adventure started last week on a train journey home to Ipswich when I purchased In Your Dreams by Tom Holt. I liked the cover, and it appears I judged it well. I didn’t really know what to expect. I just knew I’d get bored on the train, so I bought it. Turns out to be a darn good read. It’s all about wizzards, dwarfs, goblins, love, dreams, magic and stuff. Maybe I’m too old to be reading books like that, just like I’m too old to skateboard, but I’ve enjoyed it, and plan to buy another Tom Holt book in the near future.
That near future would have been today if I could have found one of the blasted things! Instead I bought Dead Famous and Post Mortem by Ben Elton and I also bought A Short History of Nearly Everything, or something like that by Bill Bryson (I think). You see, I’m not too hot on the subject of books. I just like what I like.
In other news, Jo’s niece is having a bit of a do next Sunday for her Christening. I don’t think I’ll be attending, as much as I would like to. I just wish her all the luck in this funny old world!
On the house front, some good signs and bad signs. Officially I’m still looking. Have I found something? Have I found someone? Who knows! I don’t, but when I do, you’ll be the fifth or sixth person to know about it.
