Who am I? Am I Jonathan, Jonny, Jon, J, or JJ? Or am I just a loser?
I was born Jonathan. I grew up as Jonathan to all my friends. My family occasionally called me Jonny. At sixth form, people started calling me J. I liked this! Then I went to university, where I was called Jon, despite introducing myself as Jonathan. Whilst at university, if I visited my brother and his friends in Norwich, I’d go back to being called J. I’d pop home for a weekend once in a while and be called Jonathan again.
My girlfriend knew me as Jon. She introduced me to her parents as Jon. Her whole family knew/know me as Jon. If Jo called my parents house to speak to me, she’d ask for Jon. My parents would shout for me by the name Jonathan!
I decided to make a website, so bought jonjarrold.co.uk. This happened whilst at university. It’s also easier to type, remember, and spell.
After university, I did some temp work. They called me Jon. After the temp work, I started at Vision Express. I can’t remember how I introduced myself there. My CV probably said Jonathan. Being in Nottingham, I probably wanted to be called Jon. In my first week, one of my colleagues said he didn’t like the name Jon, so called me Jonathan. I got used to it. It is my name afterall. After a few weeks, maybe months, they started calling me JJ. This makes sense, as they’re my initials. It also ties in nicely with my brother’s name from his mates, DJ.
I just thought I’d share that with you. I like them all, except for airhead, which my brother used to call me! I probably shouldn’t have bothered putting that in!
