Five-a-side

Vision Express, the company I work for, are having a five-a-side football tornament this summer. Teams can be entered from any department at our Support Office in Nottingham and from any of our stores throughout the UK. When this event was first announced, I was quite excited, but quite worried at the same time. You see, I’m not a massive football fan, but I immediately offered my limited skills to be on the Information Services team. I regretted this decision for several days leading up to our first practice, but once the game got going, I really enjoyed myself!
Tonight was the fourth week of practice (we only practice once a week). It’s not really a strict practice. It’s just a bunch of workmates playing a five-a-side match for about an hour, wearing quality stitched glow-in-the-dark bibs! I’m in it mainly for the fun of playing. I’m not serious about football. It doesn’t really bother me if we win 5-3, or lose 10-4. It’s the taking part that counts!
I’m getting better though, both fitness wise and skill wise. I’m no Matt Holland (I’ve met him, by the way!), but I’m scoring goals, marking my man, saving the odd shot on target, and keeping a relatively clean sheet on the pitch!
So here’s to five-a-side, and to Simon for organising it all. And ‘good game, good game’ to the rest of the players! Get in there! Back of the net! Gooaaaaal Italia!
